I might mention, if I didn't <br /> 5 mention last year, I want to be sure that you understand that the Leadville mine drain tunnel,the <br /> 6 treatment plant for the effluents of the Leadville tunnel is in operation,has been successfully <br /> 7 operated all year, is turning out a quality product. The effect on the river according to the local <br /> 8 people I have talked to that fishing is improving and that it is doing its job. <br /> 9 The Leadville mine drain tunnel in conjunction with the companion project, the <br /> 10 Yak tunnel is supposed to remove about half or fifty percent of the heavy metal pollution in the <br /> 11 upper Arkansas River and it should improve the water supply of the river. It has improved the <br /> .12 fishing so far according to the local people. <br /> 13 CHAIRMAN COOLEY: Would you allow me to do what I always do which is to <br /> 14 interrupt you. There are...and I have asked this question every year so it won't be any surprise to <br /> 15 you...there are two drainage projects at Leadville. One is down by the smelter, on the way down <br /> 16 the Arkansas Valley in the direction of the Twin Lakes to the south, the other is at...that near the <br /> 17 road intersection to the pass and to the molybdenum mine, where the road turns off to Gilman, <br /> 18 and what's the town,well, what is the junction town on the Colorado railroad where it comes <br /> 19 into the interstate there? <br /> 20 MR. JESSE: Minturn. <br /> 21 MR. CHAIRMAN: Minturn. Minturn. Which of the tunnels is the headway <br /> 22 being made in? <br /> 023 MR. JESSE: Actually there is treatment in both of them.
