Status of Construction
The construction schedule for the Closed Basin Project is
shown on "Control Schedule" sheets 1 and 2 of the enclosed
materials. As indicated thereon, salvage wells in Stage 1-2 have
been installed and Phase 1 salvage wells in Stage 3 (22 wells )
have been completed. Installation of Phase 2 wells in Stage 3 is
underway. Bids on Reach A, Stage 1-2 , of the conveyance channel
will be opened on September 17, 1983, and on Reach_ B in December
of this year. Construction on both reaches is scheduled for
completion in June, 1985. Wellfield laterals in Stage 1-2 are
under contract and are scheduled for completion in August, 1985 .
Both the conveyance channel and the wellfield laterals in Stage 3
are scheduled for completion in August, 1986.
Delivery of water from Stage 1-2 should occur for a full
year before the conveyance channel and wellfield laterals in
Stage 3 are complete. The authorizing act provides that salvage
wells in Stage 3 will not be placed in production until Stage 1-2
salvage wells are delivering water to the satisfaction of the
Board and the District.
According to the enclosed materials, the Bureau' s well
spacing model and the U .S. Geological Survey' s computer model
show that pumping Stage 1-2 at 13 , 143 acre-feet per year and
Stage 3 at 37,00 acre-feet per year will not violate any boundary
conditions as required by the amended authorizing legislation.
Based on testing of water samples from Stage 3 wells, the water
quality is well within the limits prescribed by the Rio Grande
Compact . The Bureau' s salvage well water quality mixing model
shows no problem with water quality when blending Stages 1-2, 3 ,
4 and 5 water. These results are shown on the water quality
sheets in the enclosed materials.
Encl: as *stated
JWM/bm
MEMORANDUM -2- August 31, 1983
