DWR, as part of Arkansas litigation, is in the process of developing a scope of work to refresh irrigated acreage
within the Arkansas River Basin. As part of the CWCB's long-range plan of decision support systems in eac
river basin, the CDSS program will assist DWR in the Arkansas irrigation refresh effort to insure that the at.
and methodology is consistent with the CDSS standards. This assistance of money and expertise will be a cost
saving when CDSS moves into the Arkansas River basin in the future.
The last element of this grant request deals with looking at the feasibility of using existing satellite imagery
obtained under the CDSS program for the South Platte, Rio Grande, Colorado and Arkansas River basins to
help identify and delineate tamarisk stands. It is thought that a methodology can be developed that is basin
independent to identify tamarisk.
CDSS Irrigated Acreage Refresh Goal
The CDSS irrigated acreage refresh goal is to refresh irrigated acreage on a 5-year cycle and try to establish
water user cooperation within each of the basins. This component of the CDSS,provides the State of Colorado,
water users and managers a better means for organizing, accessing and evaluating a wide range of information
and alternative strategies for managing their water resources to achieve the CDSS overall goal.
Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Board request the General assembly authorize $150,000 from the Construction Fund
to be appropriated to the Colorado Water Conservation Board for the CDSS irrigated acreage refresh program.
•
Flood Protection•Water Project Planning and Financing•Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection•Conservation Planning
