For FY 04-05, an appropriation of$150,000
is being sought from the Construction Fund for the acreage refresh program. This funding request is
needed to proceed with the 5-year refresh cycle in the Rio Grande River Basin and to help insure that the refresh
in the Arkansas River Basin is done using the same CDSS standards. No money has been appropriated in the
past specifically for CDSS irrigated acreage refresh.
Discussion
One of the cornerstones of the CDSS effort is the mapping of irrigated acreage and attaching diversion
structures to the irrigated lands. As part of the ongoing maintenance of CDSS, a 5-year irrigated acreage refresh
cycle was adopted. As part of the Rio Grand Decision Support System, satellite imagery was acquired and
irrigated lands were mapped in 1998. According to the CDSS 5-year refresh cycle for irrigated acreage the Rio
Grande is scheduled for refresh/update of its irrigated acreage data.
CWCB and DWR have been working with the water users within the basin to develop cooperation between
RGWUA, RGWCD and CWUA in sharing some of the costs of acquiring the needed imagery and analysis
needed to meet each of the entities' specific needs. The group has committed to sharing a portion of the refresh
lOst and they are in the process of developing a detailed scope of work.
Flood Protection•Water Project Planning and Financing•Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection•Conservation Planning
