BCPOS manages approximately 87,000 acres of open space with extensive water <br /> rights serving over 18,000 irrigated acres. Priorities of BCPOS include the preservation and <br /> management of current and future land and water holdings and participation in cooperative <br /> efforts to manage irrigation features that benefit agricultural operations and natural resources. <br /> t B.-Description of the Project or Study <br /> 1. (Please include county, and approximate distance <br /> and direction from the nearest town): <br /> The three FlumeGates on the St. Vrain Creek are proposed for installation in Boulder County <br /> from the confluence of North and South St. Vrain Creek in Lyons to the confluence of Spring <br /> Gulch and St. Vrain Creek in Longmont. The FlumeGates will be placed adjacent to the <br /> diversion structures of the Highland, Rough and Ready/Palmerton, and Oligarchy ditches. <br /> 4. Please provide a brief narrative description of the proposed study or demonstration project including <br /> purpose,need,and service area. (Attach scope of study, if available) <br /> BCPOS, in cooperation with the City of Longmont,the St. Vrain&Left Hand Water <br /> Conservancy District,the Colorado Division of Wildlife, Trout Unlimited,the Colorado Water <br /> Trust,and other partners will install three FlumeGates on the St. Vrain Creek between Lyons <br /> and Longmont. These gates will allow for low flow bypass control as well as accurate <br /> measurement of those flows,thereby protecting streamflows on the St. Vrain Creek and <br /> ensuring satisfactory flows for other calling water users during normal years. The first <br /> • FlumeGate will be installed in winter 2008 by the above partners. The remaining two <br /> FlumeGates are included in the scope of this grant request. <br /> 2 <br />
