This Program is needed in order to <br /> develop and implement a comprehensive and effective State Drought Plan that addresses <br /> • <br /> Background <br /> At the July 2007 CWCB Board meeting in Craig,CO,the Board approved the Updated Information Provided in <br /> Support of the 2002 Colorado Drought Mitigation and Response Plan and approved the forwarding of these updates <br /> to the Colorado Division of Emergency Management for integration into the Colorado Natural Hazard Mitigation <br /> Plan for ultimate submission to FEMA. Recommended actions for statewide drought mitigation and response- <br /> related actions were recently updated and approved at this meeting. They included such activities as: <br /> • A Comprehensive Update to the 2002 State Drought Plan <br /> • A drought information website <br /> • A Drought Decision Support System <br /> • Drought workshops and conferences <br /> • Drought technical assistance toolbox <br /> • Comprehensive vulnerability and risk assessments of local and state facilities,systems,and assets. <br /> • Drought impact monitoring <br /> • Statewide Climate Change/Water Adaptation Initiative <br /> • Climate monitoring stations funding <br /> • Participation in the federally authorized National Integrated Drought Information System(NIDIS) <br /> Project Description <br /> The Drought Mitigation&Response Plan Implementation Program will include the following activities: <br /> • Formulation of a broad drought vision for the State. This entails a dynamic and accessible drought risk <br /> information system that provides Colorado water providers with the capacity to determine the potential <br /> impacts of drought, an the decision-support tools needed to better prepare for and mitigate the effects <br /> of drought. <br /> • Expanded statewide water conservation and drought planning efforts,including education <br /> opportunities for decision makers and the public. Maximizing the wide range of water management <br /> tools such as water conservation and reuse,with a focus on reducing outdoor landscape water use,will <br /> Flood Protection•Water Supply Planning and Finance•Stream and Lake Protection <br /> Water Supply Protection•Conservation and Drought Planning <br />
