Grant Application- CWCB Construction Fund
Form Revised December 16,1999
In addition to the statewide significance of this proposed work, funding in the form of a
grant is justified by the limited financial resources of LPWCD. It should be noted that
the limited resources of LPWCD should not be expected to limit the potential for
construction of the projects that are the subject of the feasibility work. During the 1980s,
the State of Colorado set aside approximately $38 million as part of its share of funds for
the irrigation portion of the Animas-La Plata Project. Over subsequent years interest has
accrued and over $40 million is currently set aside. The Colorado Water Resources and
Power Development Authority is responsible for administering these funds.
Conversations between representatives of LPWCD and the State suggest some of these
funds may be available, in the form of a grant, for the dam and reservoir construction
addressed in this proposed feasibility study.
The improved water management provided by the project may also play a role in the
management and restoration of populations of endangered and threatened species. This
cannot be determined until the hydrologic component of the feasibility study is completed.
6. Will the acquisition of additional water rights be necessary?
