34
Class B: Fish, wildlife and other aquatic and semiaquatic life, and
other uses. A surface raw water source, suitable for the growth and propa-
gation of fish, other aquatic and semiaquatic life (both marine and freshwater)
waterfowl, fur bearers, and wildlife. This water-may be used for trout
habitat, warm water fish habitat, wildlife habitat, and other similar uses.
This water is also suitable for secondary water contact recreation, such as
fishing,. wading, boating, or activities where ingestion of the water is not
probable, or as a raw water source for public water supply, agricultural,
industrial, and navigational uses.
Excepted Class: Unable to meet either of the first two classifications
because of naturally occurring and /or manmade causes.
The water quality in each stream segment within the geographic unit
(ASA) will be further described in terms of the following categories:
o Meeting water quality standards.
o Effluent - limited class: any segment where water quality
is meeting and will continue to meet applicable water quality
standards or where there is adequate demonstration that
water quality will meet applicable water quality standards
after the application of the effluent limitations required
be sections 301 (b) (1) (A) and 301 (b) (1) (B) of the WPCAA
of 1972 (P. L. 92 -50).
o Water - quality - limited class: any segment where it is known
that water quality does not meet applicable water quality
standards, and is not expected to meet water quality standards
even after the application of the effluent limitations required
by sections 301 (b) (1) (A) and 301 (b) (1) (B) of the Act.
The types of pollutants and /or indicators of water quality that are
causing each stream segment or groups thereof to be classified as indicated
in the following will be described. An accompanying table will list the
i °iver -miles for each stream segment, the location of grouping of point sources
of pollution (municipal and /or industrial) and the type of waste, and the
major non point sources of pollution and the type of waste.
Near -term (1980 -1990) estimates of future water quality conditions
will be based upon current water quality conditions, projected population
growth, increased economic output, and needed additional treatment
capacity. No middle- or far -term estimates of water quality conditions
will be made.
