SUBJECT: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for the City of Lafayette
Recommendation:
The OWCDP staff recommends that Tom Browning,Assistant Director, approve a Water Efficiency
Grant in the amount of$6,581.25, for the City of Lafayette to implement a pre-rinse spray nozzle
replacement pilot program.
Summary of Grant Application
The Office of Water Conservation&Drought Planning(OWCDP)received a grant application for a
Water Conservation Implementation Grant from the City of Lafayette, a covered entity. The District
is requesting$6,581.25 from the CWCB Water Efficiency Grant Program to implement a pre-rinse
spray nozzle replacement pilot program identified in the City's Water Conservation Plan approved by
CWCB in April 2010.
To implement the pre-rinse spray nozzle pilot program ("Rinse & Save"),the City of Lafayette plans
to replace 60 existing nozzles at local restaurants and commercial kitchens with a 1.07gpm pre-rinse
spray nozzle which will be free of charge to the business. Lafayette estimates this program can
achieve water savings of 3.81 acre feet annually. In addition to water savings,the City hopes to
educate the kitchen workers in the restaurants and commercial kitchens to instill long term behavioral
changes and possibly increase future water savings.
The total cost of the project is $8,775. The City of Lafayette has pledged 25%matching funds in the
form of cash($2,193.75).The OWCDP staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and
has determined that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant
proposals. Attached is the internal checklist used to evaluate the application.
