The City is
requesting$47,750 from the CWCB Water Efficiency Grant Program to fund a one year pilot program
using WaterSmart Software for outreach to spur residential customers to conserve water. The City of
Brighton's Water Conservation Plan was approved by CWCB in August 2008.
Brighton has identified residential water conservation as a key to meet their water savings goal of
reducing summertime and overall water use by 8 to 10%by 2017. The City estimates this would amount
to a savings of 900-1,100AF of annual groundwater production. The City plans to work with WaterSmart
Software who will provide services in support of an outreach program designed to facilitate
communication with 4,000 randomly selected single family residential accounts regarding their water use.
This program will improve the City's understanding of their residential water use and reduce annual water
demand. WaterSmart will provide these customers with Home Water Reports and access to a web-based
customer portal that presents water data and conservation recommendations. WaterSmart will provide the
City with a web-based utility program that will allow them to monitor water use during this one year pilot
program.
The total cost of the project is $63,742. The City of Brighton has pledged 25%matching funds in the
form of in-kind services($15,992). The OWCDP staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application
and has determined that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant
proposals.
