Emergency Loan Application and Feasibility Study Ish Reservoir Company
Project Background
During the unprecedented flood of September 2013 (DR -4145) in the tributaries to the South
Platte River, a significant number of diversion structures and dams along the river corridor were
damaged. The Project repair /rehabilitation proposed in this Feasibility Study received significant
damage as a result of the flood.
The Diversion, off the Little Thompson River was old but in good and working condition, before
the flood. Up to 400 cfs can be diverted. The September 2013 Major Flood Disaster damaged
the Ditch Company's diversion and inlet.
FYI > The Ish Reservoir Company and the Boulder & Larimer County Irrigating and
Manufacturing Ditch Company both share diversion, inlet and the reservoir.
Ish Reservoir Company is a Mutual Ditch & Reservoir Company and serves
approximately 15,500 acres all of which is Agricultural Land in Boulder, Larimer and Weld
Counties. Up to 4500 acre -feet of water are delivered to Ish Reservoir Company Stockholders,
diverted from the Little Thompson River in Section 1, T3N, R7OW, and providing supplemental
water to meet the needs of irrigated crops. Colorado Big Thompson project water also is
diverted through the Ish inlet. The Ish Reservoir will need to start diverting water in just four
months.
The Ish Reservoir Company and Boulder & Larimer County Irrigating and
Manufacturing Ditch Company both share the inlet and the reservoir. Both company's also share
financial responsibilities.
The Ish Reservoir Company did not have any flood insurance.
Ish Reservoir Company; Preliminary Damage Assessment
1) Diversion Structure from the Little Thompson = Damage
2) Inlet Ditch = Damage
3) Bypass Headgate for Colorado Big Thompson project water = Debris Damage
4) Reservoir / Northwest Dam = No Preliminary Damage
5) Reservoir / Southwest Dam = No Preliminary Damage
6) Outlet works for Ish Reservoir "ditch" = No Preliminary Damage
7) Various headgates & headgates that divert to several farm laterals = No Preliminary
Damage
8) Stream Gaging station = Damage
9) Future Undermining is a big concern and damage assessment is ongoing!
