Long Hollow Dam and Reservoir Phase I Summary Report
on June 19, 2003. Kara Hellige, USACE Chief at the Durango Regulatory office, also has visited
the site.
6.3.1 Direct Impacts
Wetlands in the LHR area were mapped and quantified by WWE. The proposed project would
impact a total of 18,560 linear feet (LF) of perennial channel, including 2.5 acres of emergent
wetland active channel, and 2,180 LF of ephemeral drainage. The impacts would be from native
materials removed or used to construct the LHR embankment and from inundation by LHR. A
summary of impacts by type is shown in Table 3 below.
TABLE 3
Summary of Impacts to Wetlands and Other Waters
Active Channel
Ephemeral
Emergent Perennial
Drainage
Wetland Drainage
Government Draw 46,480 FT2 7,040 LF 700 LF
(1.07 Acres)
62,156 FT2 11,520 LF
Long Hollow 1,480 LF
(1.43 Acres)
TOTAL 2.5 Acres 18,560 LF 2,180 LF
6.3.2 Preliminary Wetlands Mitigation Plan
Impacts from the project to the 18,560 LF (3.52 miles) of active channel (2.5 acres of emergent
wetlands and 18,560 LF of perennial drainage) and 2,180 LF of ephemeral drainage will require
mitigation. LPWCD has proposed the following mitigation options:
• Wetland Creation. Wetland creation is proposed below the LHR embankment and
upstream of the proposed dam to mitigate the 2.5 acres of emergent wetland impacts
991-077.115 Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
