MINUTES: WETLANDS GRANT <br />INTERNAL STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING <br />DOW CENTRAL REGION BUILDING, PRONGHORN ROOM <br />SEPTEMBER 21,1992 <br />1:30 -3:30 PM <br />Attending: Peter Evans, Kate Jones, Susan Foster, Steve Dougherty, Laurie <br />Fisher, Patsy Goodman, Don Smith, and Chuck Grand Pre <br />I. Wetlands Resource Group <br />Contacts have been made, but lists have not been finalized. Patsy had a "yes" <br />from CWF ( Kelly Drake), Kate has a name from SCS (Terri Skadeland) and <br />will contact her. Kate will also phone Nancy Fishbein of TNC. Peter said <br />Mike Hart would represent mining. Steve said Jerry Novak might represent <br />the housing development community and to have Peter call him. Peter <br />should also call Dave Sidbach (Eagle Co. Planning Committee) for local <br />government representation. The EPA, Agriculture and Water Development <br />has been contacted by Peter but no firm commitment as of yet. Peter will ask <br />Jill Clark and Kirk Mesanick (House and Senate Agriculture Committee <br />Aides) to be on the Wetland Resource Group. Deadline for submitting names <br />to Susan is October 1. Ken Salazar will send a letter of thanks to members in <br />early October. <br />H. Workshops <br />Susan Foster suggested that the format and location of the workshops be <br />changed to make them more accessible and to ensure optimal fieldtrip <br />conditions. The first three would include field tours for all proposed <br />audiences, including legislators, and the fourth would be a half -day forum for <br />legislators. After some discussion, the general locations of the workshops <br />were decided. <br />I. Greeley - (eastern plains/ agricultural areas). Concentrate on high <br />plains wetlands. May 1993 <br />2. Denver - Foothill wetlands (Chatfield) and mountain fens and drier <br />sites. Tour mountain areas via I -25 or 1 -70 to see other types of <br />wetlands. June 1993. <br />3. Steamboat Springs or Grand junction - To discuss and view riparian <br />areas and work done by TNC in their inventory. June 1993. <br />4. Denver - A half -day forum for legislators and representatives from <br />the three field workshops. This forum will summarize what is <br />learned from the earlier field workshops. August/ September 1993. <br />Chuck Grand Pre offered that the Silverthorne area has an interesting history <br />including conflict and success over wetlands. The grant would be improved <br />by this format to enable regional representation by industry, agriculture, local <br />government, and science at the three field workshops. The fourth workshop <br />would ensure dialogue between legislators, workshop participants, and <br />
