-planning got underway in evaluating potential field sites and human <br />resources: <br />Monday, October 12 - Surveyed potential field workshop sites in the <br />Steamboat Spring /Yampa River area. Met with Jamie Williams, a <br />representative of the Colorado Field Office of The Nature Conservancy. <br />Toured the Conservancy's new riparian ecosystem preserve on the <br />Yampa River. Discussed meeting space options with the Steamboat <br />Springs Chamber of Commerce. Surveyed montane and subalpine <br />wetlands along Yampa River upstream of Steamboat Springs. <br />Monday. November 2 - Met with Dr. David Cooper to discuss the grant <br />objectives and to recruit his participation in the planning and teaching <br />of the upcoming field workshops and conducting the mitigation <br />banking study. <br />Conducted numerous telephone discussions with David Cooper, Steve <br />Dougherty, Patsy Goodman, Don Smith and Kate Jones about the <br />intent and potential content of the workshops. <br />3. Wetlands Resource Group <br />Monday, October 27 - Participated in the first meeting of Wetlands Resource <br />Group at the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. As a follow -up to <br />this meeting, Thorne Ecological Institute: <br />a. Produced and distributed minutes of said meeting. <br />b. Purchased and distributed to group members copies of the book <br />Statewide Wetlands Strategies - A Guide to Protecting and Managing <br />the Resource (World Wildlife Fund 1991). <br />c. Planned a field trip to Chatfield State Park vicinity for Wetlands <br />Resource Group members to observe a variety of wetlands and riparian <br />ecosystem types and to discuss both successful and unsuccessful <br />mitigation strategies demonstrated in that region. <br />d. Conducted said field trip on the morning of Friday, November 13. <br />4. Mitigation Banking: <br />Thursday.
