Advantages
Potentially workable location on the river for Windsor’s needs, but not as good as
the other storage options.
This site could serve as an amenity for the Town.
Disadvantages
There will be a higher cost for infrastructure and easements to convey water to
the property from the Greeley No. 2Canal.
There are higher costs related to infrastructure to divert from and back to the
Cache la Poudre River.
There may be floodplain/floodway issues due to the proximity to the river.
Small size compared to Windsor’s ultimate need.
Alternative No. 4 – Kyger Reservoir
The Kyger Reservoir is located between the Greeley No. 2 Canal and the Cache la
th
Poudre River in the SE ¼ of Section 13, T6N, R68W, in the 6P.M. The Kyger
Reservoir is currently being lined and will undergo the 90-day leak test performance
standard referenced in the August 1999 State Engineer Guidelines for Lining Criteria in
last this summer or early fall, producing 1,000-1,100 acre-feet of storage. There is a
pre-existing headgate off the Greeley No. 2 Canal that serves a lateral ditch that
ultimately runs to the northwest corner of the Kyger property. This headgate and ditch
will need to be repaired and expanded in order to adequately handle the desired flow
rate of 20 cfs to the reservoir plus any additional carriage flow to meet the demands of
other users along the ditch.
Advantages
The reservoir will be completed by the end of 2013.
Good location in relation to the Greeley No. 2 Canal with some pre-existing
infrastructure to divert and carry water to the reservoir.
Close proximity tothe Cache la Poudre River.
Location works well for the Town’s augmentation obligations.
This site could serve as a future park amenity for the Town since it is located at
the gateway into Town.
There is an ongoing feasibility study evaluating this location for a future water
treatment plant (WTP). Storage at this location is valuable should a future WTP
be constructed.
The 1,000-1,100 acre-feet is the ideal size to meet the Town’s current and future
non-potable water needs.
