Introduction
Lone Cabin Dam is a jurisdictional dam located in Delta County, Colorado and impounds surface
water within the Lone Cabin Reservoir. The reservoir is located approximately 5 linear miles
southeast of the town of Paonia at an approximate elevation of 7,380 feet and located in the
NW1/4 Section 13 T14S R91W, 6th Principle Meridian (Figure 1. Lone Cabin Ditch and Reservoir
Company Location Map, below).
•
t '
G a, _
•
ti ^
LONE CABIN
_- RESERVOIR
54,41
f'-.o....... a..w yr
Figure 1. Lone Cabin Ditch and Reservoir Company Location Map
The existing Lone Cabin Dam at the reservoir is an earthfill embankment having a centerline
height of 52.6 feet and impounding a reservoir with normal storage capacity of 163 acre-feet.
The dam is owned and operated by the Lone Cabin Ditch & Reservoir Company (LCDRC). The
Colorado Division of Water Resources inspected the dam on August 9, 2011, after being notified
of a recent slump on the downstream slope of the dam embankment. According to the
Engineer's Inspection Report and letter dated August 18, 2011 (Appendix B), the inspection
revealed a condition that was determined to be unsafe and could threaten the safety of the
dam if the reservoir was used to full capacity. Consequently, the overall condition of the dam
was rated as Unsatisfactory and a storage restriction of 20 feet below dam crest was
recommended. The dam has been operating under this restriction since notification in August
2011. The Engineer's Inspection Report and letter dated August 18, 2011 is attached to this
Feasibility Report as Appendix B.
9
