Animas -La Plata Project
Feb 13, 2013 Draft Transfer Inspection Report
12. Piping and Valves for Draining Discharge Lines
A 16" diameter drain pipe is connected to the 72" diameter steel pipe section of the
Durango Discharge Manifold (or RBIC) and to the 24" diameter steel pipe section of the City
of Durango Discharge Manifold (this connection is in the City of Durango valve pit).
The designations for these valves are:
• Suction manifold Isolation, 16" manually- operated butterfly valve (D1)
• Sump drain, 6" manually- operated butterfly valve (D2)
• Durango manifold discharge Isolation, 16" manually- operated butterfly valve (D3)
• City of Durango discharge Isolation, 16" manually- operated butterfly valve (D4)
• Drain discharge valve, 16" motor - operated butterfly valve (MPG)
TRANSFER ISSUE I STIPULATION
Butterfly valves condition I See Section 4 above.
13. Durango Discharge Manifold and Discharge Line
Downstream of the pumps, the individual pump discharge lines connect into the single 72"
diameter steel discharge manifold. This 72" diameter steel pipe extends from the pumping
plant structure, through an insulating flanged joint, under and past the 39' diameter air
chamber where it connects to the 72" diameter discharge line pipe at another insulating
flanged joint at station 24 +00. The Durango Pumping Plant Discharge Line starts at the end
of the manifold and continues through the flow measurement structure, under South Creek
and ends at station 43 +00. The Durango Discharge Line has one air valve at sta. 35 +23.
Ridges Basin Inlet Conduit (RBIC) starts at the end of this line.
14. Durango Discharge Line Air Chamber
A partially buried 39' diameter spherical air chamber and air compressor are located
approximately 50 feet south of the pumping plant. The air chamber has been enclosed
within a reinforced concrete structure with a pre- manufactured metal dome roof.
The air chamber is provided with a level indicating and switch module assembly. The
operation of the air chamber and air compressor is controlled by switch modules located at
predetermined water levels:
• Air Release
• Compressor ON
• Compressor OFF
• Emergency pumps OFF
A sealed corrosion - resistant submersible, float controlled, sump pumping unit rated at 40
gal /min at 35 -feet of head with a 1/2 horsepower electric 120 Vac motor is installed in the
sump recess of the plant air chamber
Transferred Works Inspection 21 Animas -La Plata Project
