Even small dams can affect hyrdaulics, riparian <br />vegetation, and channel characteristics, which in turn <br />affect the type and quality of recreation opportunities. <br />Left: This diversion dam on California's Hamilton <br />Branch of the North Fork Feather River typically leaves <br />base flows less than 50 cfs. This provides good fishing <br />but boating requires about 250 cfs. The 95 cfs release <br />shown here was boatable on the river's upper segment, <br />but not on the steeper lower segment. <br />
