Lake Minatare was also enhanced by CCC
construction. A masonry lighthouse, on a
point where it can be seen by anyone on
the lake, was built by the CCC in the late
1930's. The first CCC camp on a Bureau
of Reclamation project was at Lake
Minatare.
Kendrick Project
Initial studies of the Kendrick Project began
in 1904, but detailed engineering,
economic, and soil studies were not made
until 1930. Construction began during the
depression years of 1934 with work on the
Casper Canal. It was completed in 1939,
and construction of major laterals took
place between 1938 and 1946.
Work on Alcova Dam and Reservoir began
in 1935 and continued through 1938. The
powerplant was added in the mid- 1950s.
Seminoe Dam and Reservoir were
constructed between 1936 and 1939. Work
on the powerplant began in 1938 and was
finished the following year. These facilities
were named for the Seminoe Mountains,
which take their name from Basil Cimineau
Lajeunesse, an early French trapper.
4
Kortes and Glendo Units,
Pick -Sloan Missouri Basin Program
Initial studies of the Kortes Unit began in
1933 and of the Glendo Unit in 1944. Both
were included in the Pick -Sloan Missouri
Basin Program authorized in 1944. The
Kortes Unit was completed in 1951 and
was named after the Kortes Ranch, located
two miles downstream. Its sole function is
to generate hydroelectric power. Work on
Glendo Dam and Reservoir began in 1954
and was completed in 1958. Glendo
furnishes a maximum of 40,000 acre -feet
of water annually to downstream irrigators.
Electrical power is supplied by the Glendo
and Fremont Canyon Powerplants. A small
reregulating dam called Gray Reef is also
part of the Glendo Unit. It ensures a
continuous flow of water downstream of
Alcova Powerplant.
Work progresses on Pathfinder Dike, 1911
Million Dollar BiW was built by the CCC at Guernsey
Reservoir during the 1930's.
Engineer inspects work on the Interstate Canal, 1907
0
Irrig
Workmen mix concrete for the Interstate Canal, 1907
