(Conceptual Analysis) <br />— White Paper (Randle & Murphy, 2001): <br />Conceptual model, .incorporating multiple, <br />linked processes. <br />— Conclusions: Narrowing of the active <br />(unvegetated) river channel has occurred during <br />the last century due to the following interrelated <br />factors: <br />• reductions in peak flow and sediment load <br />• encroachment of vegetation <br />• channel degradation <br />• coarsening of channel grain size <br />Quantitative Analysis: <br />Mathematical analysis of one or two factors. <br />• Annual river -flow volumes and peak flows <br />have decreased over time <br />• Annual sediment transport has decreased <br />over time <br />• Effective discharge has decreased over time <br />10 <br />
