14 <br />Figure 5 <br />TOPOGRAPHIC REGIONS OF NEBRASKA <br />_—� Regional Boundary <br />Figure 5 is a relief map of Nebraska showing the <br />natural topographic regions. The dominant feature <br />in the eastern part of the basin is the Rolling Hills. <br />These hills are thick deposits of wind blown silt and <br />clay called loess which rest on undulating glacial <br />deposits. <br />West of the Rolling Hills area the layer of loess <br />was deposited on a flatter surface to form a vast <br />level plain. Part of this flat plain still remains in the <br />central basin, but the flat topography of some sec- <br />tions has been eroded by runoff to form hills and <br />valleys. These sections are shown as Dissected <br />Plains. <br />
