Earnings includes. wages and salaries, proprietor's income and other <br />labor income. The percentage of total income by source is presented for both years. The <br />distribution of income by source has not changed during this period. The major sources of <br />personal income in the nine- county study area are (1) Dividends, interest and rent; (2) Transfer <br />payments2' (3) Manufacturing; (4) Services; and (5) Government and Government Enterprises. <br />These sources provided 75 percent of total personal income in the study area. <br />Income from farm earnings (excluding "dividends, interest and rent" which is reported <br />separately) comprised 7.3 percent of total personal income in the study area. This is a significant <br />contribution especially considering that this category includes on -farm income only and not <br />income received by supporting industries such as agricultural services, manufacturing, <br />construction, and transportation. <br />2 Transfer payments include supplemental security income payments, family assistance, general assistance payments, food <br />stamp payments, and other assistance payments, including emergency assistance. <br />Hwd.40210R011.doc 2 -5 Third Party Impact Study <br />Final Report <br />
