The Colorado Municipal League is a
nonprofit, nonpartisan organization
that represents and serves Colorado's
cities and towns. Of the 271 cities and
towns in Colorado, CML has 264 mem-
ber municipalities that benefit from its
advocacy and informational services.
The League represents 99 percent of the
municipal population of the state. CML
believes that local problems are best
resolved at the local level and that citi-
zens are best served by strong, respon-
sive local governments. CML works to
promote strong local governments
through:
Advocacy — The League represents
municipal interests in the Colorado
General Assembly by monitoring, initiat-
ing, supporting, opposing and amending
state legislation in accordance with
League policies, which are developed by
municipal officials. The League is com-
mitted to keeping its members informed
on the status of key bills.
The League also works to influence and
report on state administrative agency
activity affecting municipalities. CML
advocates the interest of Colorado
municipalities at the Federal level
through the Colorado congressional
delegation and the National League of
Cities.
The League also protects the interests of
municipalities through participation in
certain appellate court cases having
statewide significance for municipalities.
Workshops and meetings — CML
sponsors numerous workshops and
conferences each year for elected and
appointed municipal officials. These
sessions keep officials up -to -date on
important information and allow for the
exchange of ideas.
Publications — The League publishes a
biweekly newsletter, a bimonthly
magazine and numerous research and
informational publications. These
publications are distributed to municipal
officials and are made available for sale
to other interested persons.
Policy development —Major policies
of the League are established by the
membership at the annual business meet-
ing and by the Executive Board, the
Policy Committee and ad hoc commit-
tees. The Executive Board consists of 19
municipal officials elected by the mem-
bership and is responsible for overall
finances, management and policy affairs
of the League. The Policy Committee
and the various ad hoc committees also
are comprised of municipal officials.
League staff carries out CML policies
and serves the daily needs of member
municipalities.
MUNICIPAL ELECTED
OFFICIALS' LEADERSHIP
TRAINING PROGRAM
The Municipal Elected Officials'
Leadership Training Program is recog-
nized throughout Colorado as providing
quality training for local government
leaders. By attend-
ing CML- sponsored workshops and
conference sessions, elected officials
accrue credits on their way to achieving
leadership honors.
There are three levels of achievement
in the Elected Officials' Leadership
Training Program:
❑ Certificate Level — Once a partici-
pant has accumulated 30 credits by
attending accredited CML trainings
he /she will receive a framed certifi-
cate of achievement.
❑ Leadership Level — The second level
in the program requires an accumu-
lated total of 60 credits. Participants com-
pleting this level will receive a wall
plaque.
After each level is completed,
Leadership Training Program partici-
pants will be recognized in CML
publications, and press releases will be
provided to local media. Awards are pre-
sented at the recipient's district meeting
or at the CML Annual Conference.
ON THE WEB
The CML Web site, wwwcml.org, is
updated frequently and includes what's
new, coming event and special reports.
During the legislative session, the
Statehouse Report is available on the
"Policy Center" page.
The most up -to -date CML publica-
tions catalog can be found on the site, as
well as information on the next annual
conference.
In addition, the "Links" page includes
links to municipal Web pages, state and
federal government sites, and many
other Web pages that may be of interest
to our members.
