- 11 -
proposed for the east -west trending fill slopes of Dam No's. 2 and 3 for concrete paving slope
protection, but is not proposed for riprap or soil cement slope protection alternatives due to
roughness provided by the riprap and soil cement slope protection which will assist in wave
energy dissipation.
4.2.2 Inlet Canal
It is proposed to relocate the inlet canal with the enlargement /raising of the Julesburg storage
level. The inlet canal relocation site is shown on Fig. 1. It is assumed that the relocated canal
bottom width would be 30 feet, excavation side slopes 12:1,, and the canal lateral slope 2.5
feet per mile. This relocation would shorten the canal by approximately 0.4 and 1 .2 miles
respectively, for a 3.5 foot and 6.5 foot water level increase, and would raise the canal bottom
elevation at the reservoir by approximately 3.4 and 5.6 feet, respectively, including an
additional 2.0 feet due to the elimination of a-Atbp structure upstream from the reservoir. The
operation of the canal with the water level raise alternatives would be comparable to existing
conditions. The material excavated from the canal excavation would be used for the
rehabilitation of Dam 1. Under the dam raise and canal relocation options, an outlet works
would be constructed in Dam 1 to deliver -water to the downstream wetlands and to supply
Little Jumbo Reservoir, which currently obtains its water supply out of the Julesburg inlet
canal.
4.2.3 Outlet Works
With a water storage level' raise of 3.5 feet or higher the outlet tower platform, catwalk and
gate operators would be raised to elevation 3718.5. The platform would be raised by
constructing a new platform similar to the existing installation on top of the existing structure.
It is assumed that the current intake tower would perform adequately for controlling releases
with the raised water level. Gate operator shafts would be extended accordingly. The catwalk
would be extended by constructing an earthen peninsula to the existing catwalk end.
2\reports \97- 1- 500.nk
