1998: <br />difornia will host the next annual workshop. The future role of the WSWC and <br />work with the federal advisory committee and USGS on cooperative data collection and <br />Lent programs will be examined. <br />Subco mittee: Roger Johnson (CA), Nancy McCann (WY), Joe Smith (AZ), and Hal <br />Ander n (ID) <br />Work Days: 10 days <br />Time Frame: Spring 1998 <br />Work o Date: Under an agreement with the WWPRAC, the Council completed a report <br />entitle c, "Water in the West Today: A States Perspective." WSWC staff members have <br />reviewed basin reports and other reports prepared for the Commission. Staff have also <br />summarized the Commission's draft final report, and a draft WSWC response /position has also <br />been v evared. <br />1998: 117he WSWC and individual member states will provide comments on the draft report, and <br />folio g completion of the final report actively seek to ensure any recommendations are <br />imple ented in harmony with state law. <br />Work Days: 9 days <br />Time )Frame: January - March <br />ittee: Dave Sprynczynatyk, Chair, Dave Kennedy, David Holm, Pete Morros, Larry <br />Dee Hansen, Jeff Fassett <br />Work o date: Drought is a recurring work plan item. The Council is currently working with <br />the W A, federal agencies, and the National Drought Mitigation Center towards improving the <br />region response to future drought. In 1997, parts of the West experienced devastating flooding. <br />A drafi report on flood control policy with recommendations for further action has been prepared <br />by W staff, presented to the governors for their consideration, and finally approved. <br />1998: [Me Committee and Council will continue working to improve drought and flooding <br />respon a efforts westwide in cooperation with the WGA and National Drought Coordination <br />2 <br />
