RE: Funding Support for Crane Cam at Rowe Sanctuary.
Dear John,
The purpose of this letter is to provide clarification of the letter from Audubon Nebraska associated with
Item #16 on Request for Disbursement #155 dated April 15, 2010. The letter from Audubon Nebraska,
as well as the Request for Disbursement from the Program, are attached for reference.
Audubon Nebraska has requested $5,000.00 from the Program to assist in replacing camera equipment
for the "Crane Cam" at Rowe Sanctuary. The value received by the Program from this expenditure
comes in the form of services received rather than equipment ownership. For this one time
expenditure, the Program receives the following services:
1. Use of the camera for remote monitoring of the tern and plover nesting island on Rowe
Sanctuary. This could be an important supplement to the field monitoring efforts planned
for this summer and future summers.
2. Access to the live video feed for other uses including documentation of SDHF events, time
lapse observations of river dynamies, and outreach efforts such as display of the video feed
at the Nebraska Nature and Visitors Center.
While the term "donation" is used in the request letter, and "contribution " is used in the Request for
Disbursement the expenditure is payment for services to be rendered. The services are continuous,
video surveillance of a portion of the river reach between the Minden and Gibbon bridges on Rowe
Sanctuary. The term of this agreement is for the life of the camera, a likely minimum of five years up to
seven years or longer (based on life span of previous equipment).
