A'UdUbOn NEBRASKA
March 25, 2010
RE: Funding Support for Crane Cam
Jerry Kenny
Executive Director
Headwaters Corporation
4111 4th Avenue
Suite 6
Kearney, NE 68845
Dear Jerry Kenny:
IL -, •
Rowe Sanctuary
Iain Nicolson Audubon Center
4445o Elm Island Road
Gibbon, NE 68840
Tel: 308- 468 -5282
Fax: 308- 468 -5627
www.rowesanctuary.org
I am writing in regards to the live feed Crane Cam on Rowe Sanctuary that provides
internet viewing of the cranes on the Platte River. The current camera system we have is
seven years old and failing. This camera is followed daily by people from all over the
world. I respectfully request a donation of $5,000 from the Platte River Recovery
Program to help replace the camera system so that we can continue to provide this
outreach to the public. We have already secured a new transmitter /receiver from Verint
Corp. and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has agreed to supply funding also.
The Educational Service Unit 10 supplies the internet streaming and the Nebraska Central
Telephone Co. supplies the T -1 internet connection. In the future, the plan is to also use
the camera as a remote device to monitor Tern and Plover nesting islands on the
Sanctuary. If the Platte River Recovery Program deems it appropriate to fund this
request recognition of the program's contribution will appear on the Rowe Sanctuary
website adjacent to the live video feed along with other sponsors. This should be a great
educational outreach opportunity for the Program and also could provide some good
monitoring information for terns and plovers.
Respectfully,
Jad
Bill Taddicken
Director
Rowe Sanctuary
lain Nicolson Audubon Center Stewardship Board
Dan Lindstom Chair Jon Abegglen Joel Johnson Doug Kristensen Kathleen McKenzie
Brian Moody Bill Ross Ed Scantling Kirk & Jen Summers Holly Warth
