Project Beneficiary Profile: <br />The economy of the watershed is based on irrigated agriculture. The median per capita <br />income for the area was $10,336, whereas the Colorado per capita income was <br />$14,821 for the same period. The population within the watershed is 83 percent White, <br />12 percent Hispanic, and 5 percent other with an average age of 33. The average age <br />of a Colorado resident is 29. The 1999 unemployment rate for Otero County, Colorado <br />was 4.7 percent, which compares with 2.9 percent for Colorado. The median house <br />value for the watershed is $38,200 compared to the state median value of $82,700. <br />Wetlands*: Palustrine Emergent <br />Flood Plains: <br />approximately 1,463 Ac. <br />Palustrine Scrub /shrub & Forested approximately 1,818 Ac. <br />Lucustrine Littoral Open Water approximately 1,361 Ac. <br />The floodplain along Horse Creek and the Arkansas River will not be <br />affected by the project. <br />Highly erodible cropland: <br />There are - - - - - -- acres of HEL lands in the watershed. <br />15 <br />
