How this influences water availability is a <br />function of several biophysical considerations (such as evapotranspiration rates and surface <br />water /groundwater interactions), water management practices (such as reservoir operations), <br />and potential changes in water demands. <br />• In addition to water supply concerns, changes to runoff regimes are likely to raise water <br />quality and environmental issues associated with periods of reduced seasonal flows, water <br />temperature increases, storm surges, saltwater intrusion (in coastal areas), and more <br />generally, problems associated with climate changes occurring at rates beyond the natural <br />adaptive capacity of species and ecosystems. <br />
