SECWCD <br />June 16, 2005 <br />3 <br />RECORD OF PROCEEDING <br />Continuing to meet with Kansas experts concerning resolution of numerous issues, <br />primarily related to model input/configuration issues, so that a final ruling in Kansas v. <br />Colorado might be entered by the end of 2005. <br />Continuing to evaluate appropriate response to the U.S.G.S. report, Variability of <br />Differences between Two Approaches for Determining Ground -Water Discharge and <br />Pumpage, Including Effects of Time Trends, Lower Arkansas River Basin, Southeastern <br />Colorado, 1998 -2002. Have request input from well owners by June 17, 2005. <br />Additional transfers to the Offset Account including 1,004 acre -feet acquired by the <br />Lower Arkansas Valley Water Conservancy District on behalf of well owners, were to <br />have been made June 15, 2005. <br />The next Augmentation Coordination meeting is scheduled for June 28 at the District <br />office. <br />U.S. BUREAU OF RECLAMATION REPORT: <br />Mr. Vaughan reported as of June 14, there was 132,534 acre -feet of water stored in Pueblo <br />Reservoir, 76,444 acre -feet of Project water, 17,234 acre -feet of stored If & When space, 38,755 <br />acre -feet of Winter water. <br />Mr. Vaughan said there is currently 180,505 acre -feet of Project space in Pueblo Reservoir, and <br />33,509 acre -feet of Project space available in the Turquoise and Twin Lakes Reservoirs. <br />Mr. Vaughan said to date Reclamation has collected 27,115 acre -feet of water from the west <br />slope. By this date last year, 23,776 acre -feet had been collected. Boustead Tunnel peaked June <br />15 with approximately 600 cfs. <br />Brian Person said he assisted other Reclamation staff in the operation of the diversion structures, <br />setting the rates of releases. <br />Mr. Person reported crews will begin building roads on the south embankment of Pueblo Dam in <br />order to allow access to drillers collecting core samples from the embankment and foundation <br />areas as part of Reclamation's Safety of Dams Program. The core samples will be analyzed and <br />enable Reclamation's engineers to evaluate information about potential hazards, like floods or <br />earthquakes, in relation to the original dam designs and contemporary construction standards. <br />Data collected during exploration enables Reclamation to access how the dam would perform in <br />those extreme situations. This is a part of the ongoing Safety of Dams Program that Reclamation <br />has all over the West. Mr. Person said Pueblo Dam is safe and always has been. <br />Mr. Person said the ten -year review of the Trinidad Project is approaching, where the Arkansas <br />River Compact issues will be reviewed. There is a kick -off scoping meeting set for July 26. <br />
