Calhoun <br />Regional Director <br />Subject: Endangered Species Act Compliance for Bureau of Reclamation, <br />Upper Colorado Region, Colorado River Projects and Designation of <br />Critical Habitat for Endangered Fish <br />In response to the designation of critical habitat for four Colorado River <br />endangered fish, Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agreed to <br />work together to review Reclamation projects to insure continued compliance <br />with the Endangered Species Act. Since that time, formal consultation has <br />been reinitiated on the Narrows, Animas La- Plata, and Provo River projects. <br />Consultation on Navajo and Glen Canyon are ongoing and Flaming Gorge is <br />scheduled for reevaluation in 1997, and the San Juan Recovery Implementation <br />Program is continuing. The Recovery Implementation Program Recovery Action <br />Plan has been modified to include additional actions designed to specifically <br />address critical habitat. <br />During a May 13, 1994, meeting it was agreed that Reclamation would provide a <br />list of projects requiring consultation or reevaluation, and their relative <br />priorities. This information is attached for your use. <br />Additional information is being developed by our Provo Projects Office and <br />will be sent to you under separate cover.
