Hammond Project <br />Location: Off- stream along San Juan River below Navajo <br />Dam <br />Completed: 1962 <br />Features: Hammond Diversion Dam - 90 cfs capacity <br />Carriage facilities <br />* 2 pumping plants <br />* 27.4 miles of canal <br />* 13 miles of laterals <br />* 8 miles of subsurface drains <br />Consultation History: No Section 7 consultation <br />Purposes: Irrigation <br />* 3,933 acres of full service lands <br />* annual depletion of 10,000 acre -feet <br />Water Rights: Project water rights are owned by the <br />United States, with a small portion held in the name of the <br />Hammond Conservancy District. United States' water rights are <br />permitted with the State of New Mexico for any Reclamation <br />purpose on the San Juan River. District's repayment contract <br />limits the amount of land that can be irrigated on the Project. <br />River and headgate diversion amounts proposed in Hammond Project <br />DPR are significantly lower than historical amounts used by <br />District since completion of Project. <br />
