In
attendance from FWS were Larry Shanks, John Hamill, Lee Mills, Holt
Williamson, and Pat Nelson. In attendance from DOW were Bob Caskey,
Eddie Kochman, Clee Sealing, Tom Nesler, Larry Harris, and myself. Due
to a shortage of time we were not able to discuss all issues identified
at the beginning of the meeting. Bob Caskey, Lee Mills, and Larry Shanks
will meet again May 7 to continue discussions. Topics discussed at the
Monday morning meeting included: May 4 meeting with water users,
razorback sucker genetics, and propagation of endangered fishes.
ay__w
M4ater _me
_userseting - Eddie Kochman lead discussion. This meeting
-- ----- ----- - --
will be a scoping session to discuss the status of native aquatic species
in Colorado -and paint -a true picture -of what is happening. We want to
avoid seeing other species listed. The Arkansas darter. is currently in
serious trouble. John Hamill stated that roundtail chubs and
flannelmouth sucker are currently candidates for listing (Lower Basin
only ?). We want to bring water users in as equal partners to prevent
further listings:
R_az_o_r_b_a_c_k__genetics - Bob Caskey stated that the delay in evaluating
razorback genetics is inexcusable. Holt Williamson will write a letter
today requesting that razorback carcasses and tissues be sent to Merck
(sp ?) at BYU. FWS will make Dexter fish and Dowling fish available
today. We would like to see a current status report on genetics of Upper
Colorado River razorbacks from Dowling's data.
_ Pr_opagation - Eddie Kochman stated that DOW is willing to take any
razorbacks captured this year to the Wray hatchery. Lee Mills said
Humphries Pond could be used for Colorado River razorbacks. Larry Shanks
thinks all razorbacks captured this year from Yampa, Grand Valley of
Colo. River, and San Juan River should be removed from those rivers. Bob
Caskey doesn't like Colorado razorbacks from Yampa River going to Ouray.
Protocol for removing Colorado's razorbacks this year will be to take all
fish from Colorado River to Humphries Pond until they can be taken to
Wray and all Yampa razorbacks to Ouray until they can be taken to Wray.
The Division Recovery Committee convened at 1:00 at the Central Region
office. In attendance were Peter Evans, Bob Caskey, Eddie Kochman, Don
Horak, Clee Sealing, Larry Harris, Tom Nesler, Grady McNeill, Sue
Uppendahl, and Bill Elmblad.
