Y
Mr. Avery Batson
Denver, Colorado -2- 6 -11 -51
or any feature thereof, until a definite plan report thereon has been
completed, reviewed by the states of Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado,
and approved by the Congress." A similar provision was contained in
the 1951 Appropriation A -ct (Public Law 759) 81st Congress, 2d Session.
We are in agreement concerning the desirability of a reservoir at the
Glendo site for 1e storage of supplemental water in the amount of
about 15,000 acre feet for use in eastern Wyoming and 25,000 acre feet
for use in western Nebraska. 2.. Re- regulation of Pathfinder water.
3. Generation of hydro-electric power. 4. Retention of sediment.
5. Flood control.
The present plan only proposes to take care of items 2 -3-.4 and 56 It
takes some 4,000 irrigated acres out of production in Wyoming and makes
no attempt to replace them. It displaces 27 Wyoming farm families and
takes about 18,000 acres of land from our Wyoming tax rolls. Several
miles of the Yellowstone highway must be removed and made longer and the
grades steeper. This also applies to the Burlington railroad.
As a. representative of Governor Barrett and as Director of the Wyoming
Natural Resource Board, I deem it my duty to conclude my comments by
saying that in my opinion Wyoming has little to gain and much to lose
by construction of Glendo Reservoir, and I recoimizend that our Natural
Resource Board oppose construction of Glendo Reservoir to any capacity
until agreement has been negotiated between the states of Colorado,
Nebraska and Wyoming concerning all features of this project and parti-
cularly the height of the dam, and that Senators O'Mahoney and Hunt
and Representative Harrison be advised of this action aid asked to use
their influence in the Congress to stop any further expenditure of
Federal funds on investigation or for construction of this project,
Approved
President
Wyoming Natural Resource Board
e c
Director
Wyoming Natural Resource Board
i
