Modeling Results for
Colorado River Basin States' Modeling of
Colorado River and Reservoir Management Strategies
releases from Powell are constrained to a minimum of 7 MAF, and a maximum of
9.5 MAF.
Three revisions to the original Hybrid strategy (Hybrid) were also studied to
understand the effects of adjusting specific parameters. The Hybrid strategies and
Powell normal operations are illustrated in Figure 2 -2.
Figure 2 -2
Lake Powell Release Strategies
(Elevation in feet; Volume in million acre -feet)
Powell
Powell Release Strategy
Powell
Elevation
Normal Hybrid Hybrid rev1 Hybrid rev2 Hybrid rev3
Elevation
3700
Equalize or 8.23
Equalize or 8.23
Equalize or 8.23
Equalize or 8.23
Equalize or 8.23
3700
602(a)
----- - - - - --
- ---- -- - - --
-- --- -- - - --
-- --- - - - - --
----- -- - - --
602(a)
8.23
8.23;
8.23;
8.23;
8.23;
if Mead < 1050,
if Mead < 1100,
if Mead < 1050,
if Mead < 1100,
balance contents with
balance contents with
balance contents with
balance contents with
a max release of 9.5
a max release of 9.5
a max release of 9.5
a max release of 9.5
3575
------ - - - - --
----- - - - - --
3575
7.48
7.48
3550
----- - - - - --
----- - - - - --
3550
7.48
7.48
3525
----- - -- ---
----- - - - - --
----- - - - - --
----- - - - - --
3525
balance contents with
balance contents with
balance contents with
balance contents with
a min /max release of
a min /max release of
a min /max release of
a min /max release of
7 and 9.5
7 and 9.5
7 and 9.5
7 and 9.5
3370
3370
Common Assumptions
1. Surplus in accordance with ISG (2007 -2016)
4. 602a storage requirement for equalization is according to the 602a algorithm with the minimum constraint of 3630 through 2016
Hybrid Revision 1 raised the Mead elevation for triggering balancing from 1050
to 1100. Hybrid Revision 2 raised the Powell elevation for triggering a 7.48 MAY
release from 3550 to 3575. Hybrid Revision 3 was a combination of Hybrid
revisions 1 and 2, incorporating both adjustments. Other parameters remained the
same as the original Hybrid.
5
