INTEREST OF THE AMICI CURIAE <br />The interests of the respective amici curiae are as follows: <br />a. Trout Unlimited is a national non -profit organization with over 125,000 members <br />whose mission is to conserve, protect and restore North America's cold water fisheries and their <br />watersheds. TU's Colorado Council has approximately 8000 members. TU's Colorado Water <br />Project operates primarily at the state level to maintain healthy coldwater fisheries and increase <br />meaningful public participation in decisions affecting water allocation and quality. TU's members <br />recreate on Colorado's many rivers, and also participate in river and fishery restoration projects <br />across the state. <br />b. High Country Citizens Alliance is a local grassroots environmental protection <br />organization with over 700 members headquartered in Gunnison County. Within our mission to <br />protect, restore and enhance the natural ecosystems and quality of human life in. the Upper <br />Gunnison River Basin, in the Mountain West, and on Planet Earth, one purpose is to preserve and <br />protect those environmental, economic and social values essential to maintaining and enhancing <br />the quality of life in the mountain west for ourselves and posterity. Many of our members both <br />raft and kayak on the waters of Colorado. The ability of public entities to develop recreational <br />water features is important to and for our members. <br />c. San Juan Citizens Alliance is a Durango- based, non -profit citizens organization <br />interested in river recreation and conservation issues as they impact the rivers arising in the San <br />Juan Mountains. The Alliance has about 500 members who live primarily in southwest Colorado. <br />Many of our members are avid recreational rafters, kayakers, and canoeists who enjoy floating the <br />2 <br />
