The
RICD claim is higher than these amounts for all RICD claim periods. The higher RICD claim will help
ensure that the instream flow claims are also satisfied.
5.0 COMPACT ENTITLEMENT
5.1 Colorado River Compacts
The State of Colorado is signatory to two significant interstate compacts relating to the Colorado River.
The 1922 Colorado River Compact allocates 7.5 million acre -feet (maf) of consumptive use annually to (1)
the Upper Colorado River Basin (those parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming
above Lee Ferry, Arizona) and (2) the Lower Colorado River Basin (those parts of Arizona, California,
Nevada, New Mexico and Utah below Lee Ferry, Arizona). This Compact requires the Upper Colorado
River Basin to deliver an average of 75 maf to the Lower Basin during any consecutive 10 -year period.
