Executive Summary <br />Executive Summ <br />Introduction <br />During lhe Resource Management Plan (RMP) revision being conducted by the US DepaRment <br />of the Interior, [3ureau of Land Management (BLM), Grand Junction Field Ofticc (GJF'O), an <br />inventory �nd analysis of BLM rivers and stroams within the planning area is required to <br />determine whcther rivers or segments of rivers are "eligible" and "suitable" for considcration of <br />inclusion in the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System (NWSRS). The GJFO has completed <br />an inventory and eligibility determination for watercourses under the field oftice'sjurisdiction. <br />Statutory Back�round <br />Most rivers are added to the NWSRS [hrough federal Iegislation, after a study of thc rivcr's <br />eligibility and suitability for designation. Under Section �(d)(1) of the Wild and Scenic River <br />Act (WSIi Act), federal agencies are required to consider and evaluate rivers on lands they <br />manage for potential designation in conjunc[ion with [he preparation of their RMP.'�he BLM <br />Manual, 8351, further defines and establishes the policy, program direction and procedural <br />standards for Fultilling the requirements of the WSR nct. <br />F,ligibility Uctcrmination <br />I he initial step in the eligibility determination was to create an inventory of all potential rivers <br />and river segments falling on lands administcred by the BLM, GJFO.
