UuuYY
Crested Butte Study Area
— i-/ \
jI
Samples were collected April through September of 1968. Because
of snow accumulation and high run -off during the winter and spring
months, the area is generally inaccessible to project personnel.
An examination of the data (Tables 52 through 55) indicate that
toxic wastes introduced into Coal Creek by the facilities of Standard
Mining Company are deleterious to bottom fauna in Coal Creek. Seem-
ingly, effluents introduced by facilities of the Standard Mining
Company are responsible for the deterioration of water quality in
Coal Creek which is a tributary of the second order of the Gunnison
River.
Recommendations
1. A copy of the data for this area should be sent to the Colorado
Water Pollution Control Commission.
2. Because of the general inaccessability of the area, it should
be dropped from the project pending action taken by the
Colorado Water Pollution Control Commission.
ABSTRACT
This report covers the results of studies on the pollution effect
on selected Colorado streams and . rivers caused by effluents of the min-
ing and milling industry.
-53-
