2) Negative. The safety of the Idaho Springs Reservoir Dam will not
meet the requirements of the Office of the State Engineer.
3) Negative. The storage capacity of the Idaho Springs Reservoir
may be progressively further restricted as deterioration of the dam continues.
4) Negative. The raw water storage capacity will not provide a
reliable source of water for the City of Idaho Springs and its service area, and will not provide
the City with additional revenue from water sales.
5) Negative. Future costs for rehabilitation or reconstruction of the
Idaho Springs Reservoir Dam will likely increase.
This alternative is not feasible.
b. Alternative 2: Rehabilitate to improve the safety of the dam.
1) Negative. The City will incur the additional expense for minimum
rehabilitation of the dam required by the State Engineer.
2) Positive. The safety of the Idaho Springs Reservoir Dam will meet
the minimum requirements of the Office of the State Engineer, Dam Safety Branch.
3) Positive. The costs incurred by the City will likely be less than the
costs for restoring or increasing the storage capacity of the reservoir (Alternatives 3 and 4).
4) Negative. The raw water storage capacity will not provide a
reliable source of water for the City of Idaho Springs and its service area, and will not provide
the City with additional revenue from water sales.
5) Negative. Future costs for restoring or increasing the storage
capacity of the Idaho Springs Reservoir will likely increase.
This alternative is feasible, but is not considered the preferred alternative.
c. Alternative 3: Rehabilitate to restore the original storage capacity.
1) Negative. The City will incur the additional expense for
rehabilitation of the dam to restore the original storage capacity and to improve the safety of the
dam.
2) Positive. The safety of the Idaho Springs Reservoir Dam will meet
the requirements of the Office of the State Engineer, Dam Safety Branch.
