Woodward-C

indicate movement in the downstream slope. The field invesrigation we propose includes
investigation of this possibility. A sixth drill hole (as requested in the summary by Mr.
Templeton) could be included at a location determined after drilling the 5 primary drill
holes, or to the left af the outlet works; however, at this time we recommend a basic
program of 5 drill holes with a contingency for a sixth hole.
Piezometers will be installed in cach of the drill holes. Drill holes from the crest and
downstream toe will be completed with open well (stand pipe piezometers), aad the two
upstream piezometers will be completed with isolated tip piezometers installed in the
foundation soils.
We recommend that the piezometers be instalted using combined piezometer/
inclinometer casing. This option is discuss d i 5 as Scape Option 1.
Task Z - Surveying

In additio
Surveying will be performed to locat h les and mavement monuments. n,
we recommend limited surveying of the embaiilcment geometry. The embankinent
surveying will include one profile along the crest, one proiile across the upstream slope
at mid height, 3 cross-sections of the embanlaaent, and definition of locations of the
surface cracks. Survey data will be important in deiining the geometry of the potential
slide area, providing cross-section data for stability analyses, and providing a basis for
quantity estimates for the repair measures.
Task 3 - Laboratory Testing
Testing will be completed in our in-house laboratory. Field samples will be reviewed by
our field geotechnical engineer/geologist and aur geotechnical engineer performing the
analyses. Selected samples will be tested for engineering properties including moisture
content, dry density, speci5c gravity, gcadation, Atterberg limits, and triaxial shear
strength. We anticipate that 2 to 3 triaxial shear envelopes will be performed —
consisting of envelopes on the foundation and embankment materials. If samples of the
slide plane are encountered and the plane consists of a thin layer of clay or claystone,
Woodward•Clyde Coewttarts
2336Q/PR0.4 12-08-93(E:53wNitP'I' 42
