CWCB Construction Loan Program
Project Data Sheet
Borrower: City of Aurora
Project Name: Prairie Waters Project (PWP)
Drainage Basin: South Platte
County: Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas
Project Type: Pump Station & Pipeline
Water Source: South Platte/Transmountain
Project Cost: $800 Million — Total Project Funding Sources: Bonds, CWCB,
$250 Million — Conveyance System System Revenues
Type of Borrower: Middle Income Municipal Projected Project Delivery: 10,OOOAF
Loan: $75 Million
Interest Rate: 3.75% Term: 30 years
r
Aurora (population 300,000) is located in the eastern Denver metropolitan area. The population is
expected to exceed 600,000 people by 2050. Aurora's water supply comes from three major river
basins within Colorado and is sensitive to dry or drought conditions. During average and above
average years, the water supplies are ample to meet the City's water demands. However, during
dry conditions, water supplies are limited because the water rights owned by Aurora are relatively
junior. The Prairie Waters Project is a key part of Aurora Water's comprehensive water resource
planning. To meet the demands of its existing customers in dry years, and to meet the increasing
demands on the system in the future, the goal of the PWP is to supply 10,000 AF/yr by 2010 and
15,000 AF/yr by 2017. Aurora Water will accomplish these goals using reusable effluent from its
existing portfolio of decreed reusable water rights, supplemented by lawn irrigation return flows and
junior water rights. A key component of the PWP is the Conveyance System which includes three
pumping stations and a 60-inch diameter pipeline to convey raw water from near Brighton, Colorado
to a purification facility near Aurora Reservoir.
kORTH
Barr
 , Lake
;

BRIGHTON ¢ $,
Aurora
Gravel Lakes
_ Area
;
I
Proposed
Pumping
Station 1
DIA
Demar
Imaznatianal
Airport
.... .--- " !
, _T, Pr d
 au
\ Sfatinn k2
E•4i0
Easement
`' Proposd
pipeline
Raute

,
i
Aurora
Reservoir
   I Water
a Pumpm PUrifiCation
 Stat%n N3 .aG4ktie' :
N
e - v.
`
, , , .... . ._.- ..
