Knowing that many water utilities don't typically tabulate all of this data, the software allows the
user to enter either known (measured) or estimated (quantities that must be approximated)
values. The software then calculates a variety of performance indicators which are useful in
making performance comparisons among water utilities.
Task 3 — Prepare Colorado Water Loss Guidance Document
Using the new AWWAIWater Audits and Loss Control Programs manual as the
fundamental basis, the research team will prepare a Colorado- specific water loss audit and
control guidance document. This guidance document will be a companion piece to the AWWA
manual and will provide specific assistance and instructions to utilities seeking to implement the
industry standard water loss procedures. It will outline the reasons why implementing this water
loss procedure is a best management practice and why it represents such an improvement over
older practices. The anticipated costs of implementation will also be addressed.
The g uidance document will include a checklist of data requirements necessary for implementing
the water loss procedures as well as information on how to obtain or estimate data not readily
available.
The guidance document will also include proposed language for revising the Colorado water
conservation planning statute, §37.60.126 C.R.S. and the CWCB's Guidelines for the Office to
Review Water Conservation Plans Submitted by Covered Entities, to specify how water utilities
should include water loss procedures into their water conservation plans.
The guidance document will be distributed through the CWCB web site and other venues as a
free tool to water providers in Colorado.
Task 4 — Present Findings
The project team will work to publicize the results of this project to the maximum extent
possible. Presentations to the CWCB, various water providers, and at meetings and conferences
are envisioned.
* The CWCB will assist in researching water loss practices in other western states. The CWCB
will supervise this project; provide oversight and review all deliverables.
Aquacraft, Inc. 303 - 786 -9691
www.aQuacraft.com mayer @aquacraft.com
