This project seeks to support and validate the water conservation measures findings, as laid out
in the matrix of measures developed by the Conservation & Efficiency Technical Roundtable
established in Phase Two of the Statewide Water Supply Initiative, coordinated out of the
CWCB's Intrastate Water Management & Development Section.
Project Team
Peter Mayer and William DeOreo from Aquacraft, Inc. — will implement the project, conduct
necessary research and develop project deliverables. The purpose of
this review is to lay the ground work for development of a guidance document for Colorado
utilities. This project will also examine utility water loss best practices and regulations in other
western states (including California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah) to
determine how they have handled this issue. c$as
The research team will contact Ample of water providers in Colorado to determine their
current water loss accounting practices, data availability, and the level of effort required to
implement the IWA/AWWA methodology. At least 10 of the top 30 water providers in
Colorado will be contacted. This will include a mix of large to mid -sized providers.
The team will carefully review the AWWA free water loss software tool developed by the
AWWA Water Loss Control Committee and published on the WaterWiser web site.
Task 2 — Adapt AWWA Water Loss Software Tool
Based on the research and review conducted in Task 2, the research team will make any
necessary adaptations to the AWWA water loss accounting software so that it can be easily
implemented in Colorado.
The AWWA water loss software is a free Excel -based spreadsheet tool that has been used to
develop water loss estimates in utilities across North America. The tool can be downloaded from
the AWWA Water Loss Control pages on the WaterWiser portion of the AWWA web site at:
hqp: / /www.awwa.org/ Resources /Content.cfm ?ItemNumber --590
The Water Audit Software package includes five worksheets in a spreadsheet file. The first
worksheet provides instructions on the use of the software. The majority of data is entered on a
reporting worksheet and prompts the user to enter standard water supply information such as the
volume of water supplied, customer consumption, and quantities of losses.
Aquacraft, Inc. 303- 786 -9691
www.aQuacraft.com mayer@aquacraft.com
