• Pr°ft Testing Protocol for Determining
Streambed Characteristics of the South Platte River
1.0 Introduction
Two Aquifer Performance Tests (APTs) are planned for the South Platte River. The goal of
these tests is to determine streambed characteristics of the South Platte River. These
streambed characteristics will be used to better estimate stream depletions caused by recharge
well pumping. The APT consists of the following:
• Installation of 4 monitoring wells at each site
• Pumping of the subject well for a minimum of 10 hours to a maximum of seven days.
• Monitoring of groundwater elevations during pumping and recovery
• Monitoring of stream elevations and flow during pumping and recovery
A detailed explanation of the APT is provided in the following sections.
2.0 Layout
Currently envisioned are tests at existing recharge well locations that are approximately 100 feet
from the river and located west upstream and east downstream of CDOW Tamarack Ranch
State Wildlife Area. The west well would be the Stieb Land Co. recharge well R -4 (Permit
• 58771 -F, SE SE Sec 20, Twn 9N, Rge 51W) of the Lower Logan Well Users Inc. augmentation
plan 03CW208. The east well would be the Dinsdale recharge well No. 1 (Permits 50035 -F /
30513, NW SW Sec 2, Twn 10N, Rge 48W) of the Dinsdale augmentation plan applications
03CW194 / 01 CW061.
For both locations two monitoring wells will be installed between the pumping well and the
South Platte River. These wells will be placed so that they line up perpendicular to the South
Platte River. A third well will be drilled in line with the other two, but 180 on the other side of
the pumping well. In addition, a well will be installed near the opposite river bank.
