• • USGS Wells — Fifteen USGS test wells were drilled as part of the USGS 1957 investigation and the
geologic logs are provided in USGS (1957)
DOW Files — Denise Newberry's (DOW) files in Fort Collins and Grady McNeill's (DOW) files in
Denver were reviewed and any additional information or well data was added to the main Tamarack
GIS database.
Copies of permits and well logs were made and placed in the project file. The following information
from the permits and logs were entered into the Tamarack Model GIS database:
1. Township, Range Section, and %4 section location
2. Location based on best estimate. Either %4, 1 /4 location or distance from section lines, if
available.
3. Total Well Depth (feet)
4. Pumping rate from well testing (gpm)
5. Drawdown from well testing (feet)
6. Depth to Water (feet)
7. Depth to Base of Aquifer (clay, shale or brule formation), feet
8. Depth to Base of Layer 1 (first significant gravel layer encountered), feet
9. Whether or not a geologic log for the well exists.
In addition, ground surface elevations were added to the Tamarack Model GIS database. These
• elevations were determined by inspection of the USGS topographic coverages.
4.0 DATABASE STRUCTURE
Information collected was input into an ARCVIEW 3.0 GIS database project called:
Tamarack Model.apr
The Tamarack Model database originated from Luis Garcia's GIS coverage for South Platte River Basin
wells that pump over 50 gpm. The UTM coordinate system is used by this GIS database, thereby map
units for all coverages in the database are in meters. USGS topographic coverages provide the base map
for this project. The following themes are included in the project:
• fix: This theme includes the main database for the project and includes all the well information.
• NewWells: Originally, the study area included only R48W and R49W. Upon further inspection
of the Luis Garcia's data it was decided that wells in R47W should be investigated. These
additional wells are located in this theme. However, those wells in Sections 4 -11 were added to
the fix theme.
• USGS topographic TIF coverages for the study area.
Thirteen of the original data fields in Luis Garcia's coverage were kept in the database (fix.dbf). Table
4.1 describes each of these fields
N
