A measure of velocity.
L.F. -- Lineal feet.
Drainage History There has been periodic flooding of the area under
study since the days when the entire area was agricultural. The major flood-
ing has usually occurred where the highway, country roads, or city streets
cross the drainage channels. It was not until recent years, when the
development changed from agricultural to residential and business, that this
flooding caused any serious damage. Generally speaking, the development of
the area west of Greeley has progressed with little or no serious considera-
tion being given the area's drainage problems. Until recently the occasional
flooding of yards, basements, and businesses has been considered more of a
nuisance than a serious problem.
In 1956 the Colorado Department of Highways undertook the reconstruction
of their highway through the area. In conjunction with this work, they com-
pleted a drainage study of the adjacent area to establish the culvert
requirements under the highway. Although this work protected the highway
itself, it did not materially alter the drainage characteristics of the
surrounding area.
in January 1957, an engineering report was completed by Harold Hoskins
and Associates, of Greeley. This report recommended specific actions to
eliminate certain drainage problems in a portion of the area under study.
Prone of these recommendations have been completed as of this writing.
- 3 -
