enmeshed impurities to settle out. <br />The settled water now is transported from the basins to the rapid sand <br />filters. The original filter building contains six such filters. At'a <br />later date, an old settling pond site was used to construct the concrete <br />shells for eight additional filters of approximately the same size. These <br />units have been fitted with the necessary piping, valves and other appurten- <br />ances as additional filters were required. At the present time six of the <br />eight available units are fitted for service. There are no automatic or <br />semi- automatic controls on any filters in the Loveland system. <br />Filtered water is collected in a clear -well and from there piped to <br />town through the transmission system. A large - volume booster pump has been <br />installed on the clear -well effluent to increase the capacity of these <br />finished water transmission lines. A newly installed Spariing propeller type <br />meter measures the plant effluent and furnishes a continuous record of water <br />produced. <br />CAPACITY AND CONDITION OF PLANT UNITS <br />INTAKE STRUCTURE (Figure 2) This concrete structure appears to be in <br />excellent condition and has an intake capacity far in excess of the future <br />requirements discussed in this report. <br />- 28 - <br />
