SECTION II
WATER CONSUMPTION
GENERAL
The amount of water used by the residents of Loveland would appear
excessive to the average citizen but is actually comparable to other western
cities in which lawn irrigation is common practice, It must be remembered
that the calculated per capita hater consumption in an unmetered area must
include all water losses from transmission line, storage units, and the dis-
tribution system plus all water used for fire protection and industrial demand.
Below are listed the water demands per capita in Loveland and other
Colorado cities
where water
is unmetered.
Average Day Demand
Maximum Day Demand
City
Year
gpcd.
Spcd,
Montrose
1958
250
625
Greeley
1957
225
458
Canon City
1956
335
726
Loveland
1957
258
689
IRRIGATION RESTRICTIONS
Loveland, as do most communities in this area, imposes restrictions on
lawn and garden irrigation. At the present time there is an ordinance in
effect that allows one -half of the residents to irrigate on even days of the
month while the balance irrigates on the odd days. Irrigation time is
limited to the hours between 5 A.M. and 9 P.M. This set of rules will be
slightly more restrictive than those practiced in previous years, which
allowed irrigation on alternate days of the week and under which everyone
irrigated on Sunday. A thirty day permit is issued to allow daily irrigation
of new lawns.
- 7 -
