PUBLIC RECREATION DEVELOPMENT <br />POPULATION DENVER METRO AREA 1/ <br />In the past 25 years the Denver Metro Area has grown at a faster rate <br />than either the State or the U.S., and this trend is expected to continue <br />for the next 35 years. <br />On January 1, 1965, the six - county Metro Area accounted for 54 percent <br />of the total State's population compared to 40 percent in 1940, and 35 <br />percent in 1900. In the year 2000, 65 percent of the State's population <br />will be concentrated in the Denver Metro Area if present projections <br />prove valid. <br />In 1960 the Denver Metropolitan Statistical Area was the twenty -sixth <br />largest in the U. S.
